La ceremonia se llevará a cabo el día 20 de septiembre y está programa de manera virtual, tal como se ha desarrollado la industria de la televisión en los últimos meses, sumando expectación al formato de su realización.
El listado oficial de nominados a los premios Emmy 2020 fue entregado por la comediante Leslie Jones, quien realizó un programa especial junto a los artistas Tatiana Maslany, Laverne Cox y Josh Gad.
La miniserie producida por HBO, «Watchmen», se quedó con 26 candidaturas, convirtiéndose así en la producción más aclamada. Atrás le siguió «The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel», «Ozark» y «Succession», quedándose con 20, 18 y 18 nominaciones respectivamente.
